Blog post of the week! Week 6- Amelia

On Friday the 25th of August at 12:00 Team 5 was having a speech Competition out in the street(Middle of team 5)

I was on of the opponents that was competing with other students from other classes. I felt nervous when we got told to sit on the chairs so I didn't move and stayed on ground. Mr Wiseman was holding a box with names he slowly out his hand in and pulled his hand back out. He said !AMELIA! everyone started clapping....that made me more nervous I stood up and I heard teachers laughing because I was supposed to be sitting on the chairs. I walked over talking to myself saying "Im not doing this for anyone else but myself and my nana."
I stood there......took a deep breath and started reading. I knew I was being watched by everyone. I could feel my voice starting to crackle and and shake but I took another deep breathe and let it go and carried on reading. When I finished everyone started clapping.

My favourite Speech was Yvone, Yvone wrote about how to look interested but you not. Yvone was using action and she was being enthusiastic. I liked Yvone's speech because it had heaps of good points on how to look interested but your not.

Kia Orana from the students of Pt England School. The week past we had the opportunity to practice using the Cook Island language! In team 5 we sang himene in the Cook Island language as well as practicing some other basic phrases to start us off everyday!

We are so very proud of our year 7 & 8 students who took the lead in preparing this beautiful range of items. They gave up every lunch time to practice together for our Friday school assembly. A huge thank you to Mrs Lagitupu and Roimata's mum Puna who helped week long.  You are awesome!

Watch and find out for yourself how proud our students are of the Cook Island culture and language. Meitaki Maata tamariki!

Life education caravan!!

Yesterday (Thursday 27th July) Room 4 headed to see Harold in the life education caravan. IT was amazing!!

We learnt about how at this age our brains have not yet fully developed, and we need to be careful when making important decisions. We also learnt about Puberty, and the changes our bodies are going through. Lynne (Our teacher in the caravan) turned all the lights off so we could see the sparkly lights on the ceiling, and we watched a video.

We can't wait for next weeks session! Stay tuned to learn more :)

Novel Study!!!

Howdy! Welcome to Term 3!!

Yesterday in Room 4 Literacy, Ironman started a novel study!! We had done lot's of prep about all they would need to know to be able to read a novel and do the activities, and the group were really excited to take on the challenge! We have started with the book 'Wonder' by R. J. Palacio. So far we are LOVING it!!

The book is about a 10 year old boy named August with a face deformity, and talks about his journey starting a school, and how he is treated! A really interesting and thought provoking read for Ironman!

We will keep you posted as the term goes on with how we do :)     Mrs Judd

Term 2- technology crazy!

Today in Room 4 literacy we explored the technological process and the steps we take to create something.

The class was set with a task; create a tower out of jelly beans and toothpicks that could hold the most books. Whoever's structure held the most, won!

We looked at the brainstorming part of the process, where we talked about our ideas.

Then we had 5 minutes to research online as much as we could about the best way to make a structure. After that we had to draw a plan to show what our idea was, and then we created! Below are some photos of us hard at work, creating a masterpiece to hold books.

The winners get a chocolate prize!
